Gameparks to Beaches

Trip Highlights

Hells Gate National Park Lake Naivasha Masai Mara Lamu Island Cooking We take turns with the cooking. Two meals a day are included while on the truck. We normally have lunch out at local cafes on the way, lots of fun. Meals out are not included.

Camping

Those campsites that are more basic tend to be more scenic; that is especially in the game parks where basic toilets and cold showers are the norm. After a night at such camps we do our best to follow with a hot shower bar campsite. Although in the Masai Mara are two basic nights, but the wild beauty and the animals in the park more than makes up for this.

Changes

You should be aware that things change frequently in Africa; camps open and close, as do the roads. So there is a chance that the itinerary may have to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Start & before the trip

We leave the camp at 8am on the first day of the trip. We recommend you arrive in Nairobi the day before, however if you're there with a few days to spare there's lots to see and do around the city. Close to the camp is Karen Blixen's, Langata Giraffe Centre or even Nairobi National Park for a first glimpse of African wildlife.

Itinerary

Day 1: Monday

From Nairobi we will transfer straight to Naivasha and the shores of the lake, where Hippo's often come to graze in the evenings. This is one of the many Rift Valley lakes, and it is home to an abundance of birds and animals. Colobus monkeys often come to admire themselves in the mirrors of the truck.

Day 2: Tuesday

This is a day set for you to explore the locals attractions. This may be anything from an energetic ride around the Hells Gate National park, where Angelina Jolie filmed Lara Croft, or a gentle stroll along the shores of Crescent Island used for the filming of Out Of Africa and home to herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra and giraffe.

Day 3: Wednesday

Another day for exploring and maybe take the chance to hike up Mount Longonot, an extinct volcano, or take out a boat on the Green Crater Lake. After all this activity you can take afternoon tea at the home of the late Joy Adamson called Elsamere, after the famous lioness of Born Free.

Day 4: Thursday

This morning we drive from Lake Naivasha out across the Rift Valley and into the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Here we can see the Local Masai people integrated with the animal population where they graze their herds of cows and live in the traditional way of life. The Mara is also home to one end of the great wildebeest and zebra migration, part of which you may be able to see.

Day 5: Friday

A full day of game driving in this beautiful area of Kenya, and a good opportunity to spot some of the most special reasons for coming to Africa. This area is home to the Big Five of the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and the remaining Rhino, now heavily protected. It is also a good place to see cheetah, sometimes more elusive than the leopard.

Day 6: Saturday

A short game drive out of the Masai Mara and it's back up to Nairobi and some welcome comforts. You will have the opportunity to eat at restaurants in the evening and relax or go out to enjoy the wildlife of a different kind at the famous Carnivores restaurant. Just as good for vegetarians and a great night out.

Day 7: Sunday

This is a day set for you to explore the locals attractions. This may be anything from an energetic ride around the Hells Gate National park, where Angelina Jolie filmed Lara Croft, or a gentle stroll along the shores of Crescent Island used for the filming of Out Of Africa and home to herds of plains game such as wildebeest, zebra and giraffe.

Day 8 & 9: Monday & Tuesday

Relax, enjoy and don't get burnt! The sun can be fierce, but the mood mellow. Take in the local atmosphere and try the local cuisine, explore the island and switch off. There are opportunities to take dhow trips and go snorkelling too.

Day 10: Wednesday

Time to cool off a bit and head back up to Nairobi on the last day of the tour and back to catch up with your flights to go home. If you wish to extend your stay then please let us know and we can make arrangements for you..

Important: Before you travel please check your Tour Voucher and Arrival Information for the latest joining instructions. This will be sent to you upon receipt of final payment.

All itineraries are subject to change without prior notice.
